Do You Buy Louis Vuitton Because You Can’t Afford Hermes, Balenciaga And Chanel?

Last night I was having a chat with a friend of mine. We were talking about designers, and she told me that she was ascending the ladder to the next level. To add to the dramatics, she was referring to upgrading her next handbag purchase. She plans on purchasing a Hermes bag next. Her ‘go-to’ bag is a Chanel Jumbo Flap Bag. She also owns a few more Chanel Flap bags including the PST, GST and she also has a 2.55 reissue.

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard references to certain handbags as levels. Apparently, there is a level between Chanel bags and Hermes bags. So I have a question: Do you ladies opt to buy Louis Vuitton because Chanel, Balenciaga, and Hermes are extremely pricey?

A popular Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag ranges from $600 to $800 USD. Meanwhile, a Balenciaga bag costs around $2,000 USD and a Chanel bag costs around $4,500 USD. A Hermes bag is the most expensive out of these brands, costing upwards of around $10,000 USD. So do you see how the bags can be referred to as being on levels?

What are your ladies’ thoughts about this? Do you buy LV due to the extreme Replica Shopping of Hermes, Balenciaga, and Chanel?

  1. You brought up a great question! My reply may be a little delay but I guess if this is still up, then it’s still active;-p Anyways, I am a huge Louis Vuitton (LV) junkie. I am because my family loved LV and as I grew up I found that it is not just a handbag-it’s whats behind it too. This is the oldest company in fashion (started in 1854) even though they started out as a luggage company. And the same print (damier ebene) was the first early print/pattern that is still used today…how cool is that?! The look of the handbags are a very classic look and the most functional for today’s working women. All of my LV handbags together can buy dozens of those bags and even the leather line in LV which is much pricier. However, I keep on returning to those darn canvas bags…why you may ask:-)? It is sooooooo light weight and durable. I got a few high end leather handbags in the past and after some use, it looks old and battered. Besides why am I paying so much for a leather handbag…what’s the point of leather in handbags… To keep our cellphone, keys, pens, etc. warm? All it does is give it weight which I don’t want in a handbag. Chanel started in the 1900s hence the flap style purse. I think it looks like something an old lady might wear and it reminds me of the flapper days…I never liked that look, however I love their sunglass line. Balenciaga looks like its name a biker masculine bag…not too attractive in my book and it seems too trendy. I cannot picture carrying this bag to work in by business suit lol! It doesn’t have any structure either for a work tote. The Hermes is okay, it looks too plain for my taste and I only have the option to hand carry? That’s a no no. That’s why I sold my speedies and replaced them with neverfulls. Neverfulls…I can wear it to the beach, to work (professional and classy), with a maxi dress during the weekend (casual and trendy), and potentially use it as a diaper bag for my babies. And pass it down to my daughters when they grow up since LV bags last forever (with a little repair at the LV store). The only other alternative that I was gonna buy was a prada bag…but it was too structured for weekend wear, saffiano leather construction was too heavy (because I’m so use to the coated canvas), and there was no over the shoulder option (only hand carry)…so I decided to by two LVs instead:-)

    • Wow, what an amazing story LBlush, so which two LV bags did you end up buying? And the neverfull, did you get the monogram canvas or in epi leather?

  2. Well, it’s true that LV is indeed cheaper than the rest. But having used a LV speedy and wallet for almost 3 years, I must say they are really durable and value-for-money. And given that I’m not those who will give tender loving care to my bags and wallet, and worst, I overfeed them with useless scraps and receipts, I’m really impressed with the quality! 🙂

    • I love hearing your thoughts. I am also impressed with quality of LV. My friend had speedy bag for 4 years and the zipper was broken. She went to the LV store and they repaired it. She told me that LV has a lifetime guarantee, how cool is that?

    • I love LV too. That’s the 1st bag that my mother-in-law gave me.:) Though it’s not true that they repair for free. My sister-in-law was being charged 7,500 php or 170 usd for gluing a part. She saud she’d rather buy a new one which will cost her 580 usd only.
